CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) Project Background
The Singer-Friden Groundwater Remediation System is located in a residential and light commercial area of San Leandro, California. The groundwater contains elevated levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), primarily trichloroethene (TCE) and tetrachloroethene (PCE), as a result of operations at a former industrial manufacturing facility. The extraction system is composed of nine extraction wells, nine monitoring wells, and seven piezometers located throughout a residential neighborhood. The treatment system is composed of two vessels, each containing 6,000 lbs of liquid-phase granular activated carbon, and ancillary appurtenances. ERRG provides operation and maintenance (O&M) services and compliance monitoring for the system. Treatment system O&M includes groundwater and system sample collection on a monthly basis for monitoring system performance, and on a quarterly basis per National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements for the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB). |
