Mission Bay Development Project

Project Background
Engineering/Remediation Resources Group, Inc. (ERRG) created a joint venture for this Mission Bay Development project. Generally, work involvesd receiving, weighing, protecting, documenting, loading, hauling and disposing of all soil removed from various utility line excavation activities conducted as part of Catellus' Mission Bay Development project. Excavated materials were delivered to a centralized soil handling area (CSHA), which receive dover 45,000 tons of soil over an 18-month period.

The soil was contaminated with metals, TPH, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from unknown sources thoughout the Mission Bay area. Upon receipt of the soil at the CSHA, ERRG segregates and stockpiles the soil based on previous investigation data. ERRG tracked the soil and coordinates with Catellus for waste characterization sampling and profiling of the material.

Once the profiling was completed, ERRG performed the load out and transportation of the material to the appropriate landfill facility. All of the data associated with the stockpiles, including manifest number, weight and dates of transportation are compiled into a database that is provided to the client and used to cross check against the weight tickets and certificates of disposal provided by the landfill. The disposal data was ultimately used to allocate costs between the various utility trenchng stakeholders.

A portion of the excavated materials received at the site was reused for utility trench backfill. Soil screening operations were established on-site to screen soils to backfill specifications.
